UNITY FROM CHAOS

With his fiery wings stretched outward, Cozen lowers to the ground. He is unable to offer a smile as Grandpa Jack, Grandma Sapphria, and Jacqueline rush toward him. His brothers and the other Sleighers approach as well, eager to hear the news.

“What happened?” Jacqueline asks. “Did anyone get hurt?”

“A few.” Cozen scans the people around the valley, surveying the damage there as well as checking the reaction of Josiah and Jeremiah as they approach. “Your mates are well.”

Josiah halts his steps, offering a prayer of thanks to the Great Mother.

“Where are they?” Jeremiah asks, looking to the parking lot, expecting them to arrive.

“They’re aiding the people of Everspring.” Cozen turns to Grandma Sapphria. “Your message was received. Father and the entire clan have left Alyona.”

“They alright?” Grandpa Jack asks.

“Some are shaken, but none have been harmed.” Cozen looks at Brighid and Nikko. “Our people and family are safe.”

Nikko lets out a heavy breath. “And, what of Alyona?”

“With all that is occurring, I am certain we will not be returning to Alyona anytime soon,” Cozen replies.

“Where are they headed?” Brighid inquires.

Cozen’s jaw tightens. “They’re almost to Everspring. They, along with Hope and the ladies, and those of the Dunia clan who are there, will aid Everspring. It is not safe for them to remain in the city.”

How much damage?” Fintan asks.

“Bad enough that they can’t stay,” he replies. “And those who do, will struggle.”

“Are they coming here?” Nicky inquires.

“No. I came to inspect the damage and consider our options,” Cozen replies, surveying his surroundings once more. “From the looks of it, the valley is safe, but it might not be for much longer.”

“Should we go to Everspring to offer assistance?” Fintan asks, eager to see his mate.

“We need to get the Frost clan out of the valley and meet up with everyone else south of here,” Josiah declares.

Everyone turns to look at him.

“He’s right,” Jeremiah agrees. “Everspring won’t need us with Cressa and the other women there as well as once the Klaus clan arrives.”

Jacqueline lifts a brow, surprised to not hear a single derogatory term about the Sleighers to exit her son’s mouth. “They’re right.” She turns her attention to Cozen. “We had spoken about our options when Ma sent the message. You confirmed what needs to be done.”

“You’re right, Jackie,” Grandpa Jack says.

Grandma Sapphria lets out a soft sigh. “Sadly, yes. That is what must be done.” Her gaze shifts to the vast mountain range that is more visible from the lower altitude than it has been in generations. “It is time to move forward.”

“What about Elle?” Jeremiah asks. “She needs to know what is happening.”

“Elle will return when she is ready to,” she replies.

“There ain’t no home to return to,” Josiah says.

“Convert the cabins into sleighs and head South,” Cozen instructs. “Once the Sleighers have reached Everspring, and we assist all those who wish to vacate for the time being, we’ll bring them to meet you.” He looks at his clan members and the Blades. “South of here is untouched by any destruction.
